Job Summary

Salary: Competitive Salary £35k pa (dependent on experience)

About Us
We are a large and well-established bus and coach operator providing reliable passenger transport services across the region. With a large workforce of 150+ drivers, engineers, and operational staff, we are seeking an experienced and proactive People Manager to support our continued growth and ensure our people policies and practices are professional, compliant, and effective.

The Role
As our People Manager, you will take responsibility for the full employee lifecycle within the business. You will play a key role in recruiting and retaining high-quality staff while ensuring, in conjunction with advice, that all HR processes, policies, and employment practices meet current legal requirements and industry standards.

You will act as a trusted advisor to management while supporting staff across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding process for new staff including drivers, engineering, and administrative roles
  • Conduct new starter inductions and ensure employees are integrated effectively into the business
  • Provide day-to-day HR support to managers and staff, working in conjunction with professional HR support within the business
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures
  • Ensure full compliance with UK employment legislation and best practice
  • Draft, issue, and manage contracts of employment and employment documentation
  • Handle disciplinary, grievance, and performance management processes in line with company policy
  • Support managers in dealing with staff relations matters
  • Maintain accurate HR records and employee files
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) training, helping ensure drivers complete required vocational training and remain compliant with industry regulations

 About You

We are looking for a confident and organised HR/People professional who can work both strategically and operationally within a busy transport environment.

Essential/ideal Requirements

  • Proven experience in an HR / People Manager role
  • A knowledge of UK employment law, supported by external professional support services where required
  • Experience handling disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • Experience managing recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential matters

Desirable but non-essential requirements

  • Experience within transport, logistics, or operational environments
  • Experience supporting a large or multi-site workforce
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification in teaching /supportive learning or a proven track record industry relevant background that would support the delivery of training modules
  • Knowledge or experience of Driver CPC training requirements
