Frequently Asked Questions
Who manages school transport passes?
This depends on the council area your child travels from:
- City of York – Managed by York Pullman
- North Yorkshire – Managed by North Yorkshire Council
- East Riding – Managed by East Riding Council
How do I know if my child is eligible for funded transport?
Eligibility is determined by your local council and is usually based on catchment area, nearest suitable school, or income-based criteria.
Please contact your local council’s transport team for any eligibility queries.
My child is starting Year 7 — when will we receive travel information?
Year 7 students should no have received their QR code, welcome information and guidance leaflet.
Students attending transition days may still travel before their QR code becomes active by showing their issued pass when boarding the bus.
How will my child receive their travel pass?
Eligible students travelling on City of York services will receive their travel pass as a ShuttleID QR code.
The QR code is normally sent via email along with joining instructions and travel information for the new academic year.
Please ensure your contact details held with the school or council are up to date.
What is a ShuttleID QR code?
ShuttleID is the digital travel pass system used on our school services.
Each student is issued with an individual QR code which is scanned when boarding the bus.
Please see the link for our Guide to School Transport for further information
Why is my child’s QR code not working yet?
When passes are first issued, QR scanning and boarding notifications may not be active immediately.
Students can still travel during this period by showing their issued pass or travel confirmation to the driver.
QR codes and boarding notifications will be activated closer to the start of the new academic year.
That should students show when boarding the bus?
Students should show either:
- Their active QR code, or
- Their temporary issued pass (where applicable)
What are boarding notifications?
Boarding notifications are automatic alerts sent through the ShuttleID system to confirm when a student boards the bus.
These can be switched on via the link provided in your welcome email.
When will new QR codes be issued for current students?
New QR codes for eligible City of York students will be issued during June and July for the new academic year.
Please note that QR codes are re-issued each academic year and existing passes will not continue automatically.
What happens if we have not received our QR code yet?
Please contact:
schools@yorkpullmanbus.co.uk
and a member of the team will assist you.
Can students outside the catchment area purchase a pass?
Yes. Subject to availability, spare seats may be purchased for non-eligible students.
These passes are now available to purchase using our “apply for home to school transport” application form.
Are spare seat passes guaranteed?
Yes. However spare seat availability depends on remaining capacity after eligible students have been allocated seats. We will however guarantee travel to school on a service that is within walking distance of your home.
What happens if the service I want is sold out?
If your preferred service is sold out, we recommend purchasing a pass for an alternative service within reasonable walking distance of your home where possible.
If this is not suitable, or you would prefer to wait for availability, you can request to join the waiting list for your preferred service.
I don’t want to purchase a yearly pass — what are my options?
Students can pay directly on the bus via cash or card for the following services instead of purchasing a yearly pass:
- Fulford School: 093S
- Tadcaster Grammar School: T1, T2
- King James School: 757H
- Manor Academy: M1, M2, M3
- Archbishop Holgate School: A43
All other services are part of our spare seat scheme and only yearly passes are available.
Which North Yorkshire services can non-eligible students purchase passes for from York Pullman?
We currently offer annual paid passes for the following North Yorkshire services:
- 757H
- 649H
All other purchased passes for North Yorkshire services are managed and sold directly by North Yorkshire Council.
If a student forgets their pass, they should speak to the driver and contact the school transport team as soon as possible.
